Malta’s Esports Revolution: BLAST Partnership Signals Global Gaming Ambitions
A New Era for Esports in Malta:
The partnership kicks off with nine major tournaments
scheduled over the next three years, starting with Season 2 of the BLAST
Premier Bounty in August 2025. These events will bring some of the world’s
top esports talent to Malta’s shores, offering fans and players alike a
world-class competitive experience.
But this collaboration goes far beyond just tournaments.
Building Infrastructure and Community:
BLAST will establish a state-of-the-art broadcasting
facility and a dedicated office in Malta. This hub will serve as the
operational heart of BLAST’s regional efforts, housing a team focused on
long-term engagement, content production, and event logistics. The goal? To
create a sustainable and thriving esports ecosystem on the island.
Robbie Douek, CEO of BLAST, called the partnership a “major
milestone,” emphasizing the company’s excitement to bring live productions,
a new studio, and competitive entertainment to Malta.
Investing in the Future of Esports:
In alignment with GamingMalta’s mission, BLAST will
also support grassroots initiatives, helping to nurture local talent and
create career pathways for aspiring players, content creators, and esports
professionals. This includes collaborations with universities and community
organizations to foster education and skill development in gaming-related
fields.
Malta’s Growing Esports Legacy:
This isn’t Malta’s first foray into the esports spotlight.
From 2020 to 2024, the island hosted multiple seasons of the ESL Pro
League through a partnership with ESL FACEIT Group. Now, with BLAST
stepping in, Malta is doubling down on its commitment to becoming a premier
esports hub.
The initiative is backed by the Government of Malta
and the Malta Gaming Authority, both of which have been instrumental in
positioning the country as a leader in digital innovation and gaming
excellence.
A Global Vision:
For BLAST, this partnership is part of a broader global
expansion. The organiser has already made waves with events in Hong Kong,
Singapore, and Texas, and Malta now joins that elite list of international
esports destinations.
